algonquinn national park. (canada)
So one day we decided to go hiking, we figure out who’s going, figure the ride situation and set a time to leave Toronto at 10am. unfortunately, it was just four. My friends Jeffrey, Allan and our friend Kai’s brother (who’s in China now) Vincent. The man easily weighs over three hundred pounds. (no problem?) Choice of ride? a 2007 BMW 745li. $100,000 (when brand new) luxuary car on twenty two inc chrome rims. This was to drive three hours north of Toronto (over three hundred and fifty kilometers). Ballin’.
We get to Huntsville in under two hours, we had alot of detours and stops. Dropped by a Weber’s burger, which are apparently amazing, I opted for Subway next door. Made a few stops at like Canadian Tire to buy a freakin’ hatchet to go with our bear repellant, cause we’re badass like that. We hear of 60% chance of thunderstorm and rain, no problem, let’s just keep going. (though luckily for us, none of that occured, so we think alright, this is going reallly smooth)
We arrive at Centennial Ridges at around 3:45PM, one of Algonquinn Park’s most difficult and longest trails. I think it was about fifteen kilometers. It’s spaced out at with twelve check points and each time we hit a check point, we took a group photo (courtesy of Allan and his crazy Nikon D7000 camera.) We missed a few, but whatever, we’re probably going to do it again. The sign said it would take atleast six hours to complete, and after hours of listening to Vincent bitch and moan and break, we did it in about four and a half hours at 8:20PM. For those who plan to tackle this trail, you may see my initials on a few of the blue markers that allow the hikers to see where the trail progresses.
Despite all of Vincent’s complaints, I’m amazed he finished it. We all got eaten alive by the bugs, but we probably got to see one of the best views in the entire park, and took probably like 500 pictures between us. (that I’ll post later) If anybody out there in Ontario is looking for some nice scenary and don’t mind the bugs and work, check out Centennial Ridges, Algonquinn Park. It’s well worth it. We wanted to stay at checkpoint twelve to see the sun set, but trekking through that without a flashlight would of been a nightmare.
We left the trail and was back on the road, feelin’ good, almost too good. That bastard Vincent has been throwing out the waterbottles all over the park and throughout the trail. Mother Nature is unforgiving. About ten kilometers outside the trail, POPPPPPPPPPP! flat fuckin’ tire. THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY KILOMETERS away from home, and in the middle of no where, in potential moose, bear and wolf country. Awesome. Oh and Vincent who has more stories and makes more noise than a construction site. Shit, this is going to be a long night.
We call Jeffrey’s dad up who’s cool enough to drive up all this way and have work at 7:30AM. Thank you again Jeffrey’s dad! So we sit there for over three hours, while we deal with passing by cars and random people. Some hippies, and these guys who howl like wolves just to get a response. (o_O) It was interesting to see them do it, not interesting seeing Vincent try it. Anyway, that pretty much sums up that day/night/morning.
Would I do it again? Hell yeah, just without Vincent and the twenty twos.
